Welcome to Leguee Farms!
We are a third generation progressive grain, oilseed, and pulse farm located between Fillmore and Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
We believe in leaving things better than we found them—from our soils, to our balance sheet, to our relationships, and to our team. We believe in growing a better future.
Our commitment has not gone unnoticed. The owners of Leguee Farms were selected as Saskatchewan’s Outstanding Young Farmers in 2023.
Family Legacy
The Leguee family has experienced seventy years and three generations of growing crops on the same land.
We preserve the traditions and skills of our grandparents, while embracing change and progress, to build our soils.
We want to give our children the same opportunity we received when we started farming.
Our goal is to improve the land we farm, rented or owned.
Innovation
Agriculture is changing faster than ever. New technologies are creating opportunities to continually improve our practices.
In the early 1990’s, Russ Leguee was an early adopter of no-till. Until then, tilling the fields black was the only reliable method of weed control. This led to the massive dust storms we’ve all seen pictures of. No-till saved our soils.
Since then, Leguee Farms has continued to innovate, through auto-steer, sensors, artificial intelligence, and so much more.
Our Story
Don and Elsie Leguee moved from Ogema to start their own farm back in 1956. They settled in the Talmage area, buying the yard and home section we still occupy today.
They raised livestock like cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and grew crops. In 1978, their son Russ and his wife Sharon joined the farm, which they grew from 1,200 acres to 9,500 by the early 2000’s. In 2003, they began to phase out the cattle.
In 2012, Leguee Farms Partnership was born, with the addition Jake and Sarah, two of Russ and Sharon’s children. By 2017, Erik, married to the youngest sibling Amber, joined the farm.
Today, Leguee Farms spans 17,000 acres, from Weyburn to Fillmore, growing durum, canola, large green lentils, and flax. The farm has grown to include several non-family staff and seasonal help to manage the crop and run the business.
While many things have changed, and will continue to change, one thing never will – our passion for agriculture.
Outstanding Young Farmers
What makes a farm stand out from the others? There is no one single thing. And there truly are many excellent farms out there. We are not special.
However, we do work hard to be the very best at what we do. Pursuing excellence is a core value for a reason.
As 2023’s Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmer, Leguee Farms was recognized not just for their success, but also for their contributions to agriculture and their community.
Joining this group of Outstanding Farmers from across Canada was an amazing experience.
Farmers Have A Story To Tell
How do we engage with the vast majority of people that don’t have any experience with farming? Farmers have a great story to tell.
Here’s how we are working to bridge that gap.
Sustainability in Action
Is agriculture sustainable?
If it wasn’t, multi-generation farms simply would not exist. But there’s more to it than that. We love sharing our story. Check out the video to learn more.
